Women and Diabetes- Our RIGHT to a Healthy Future

INDIA is known as a DIABETIC CAPITAL as most of the diabetic patients live here. Among all states, Punjab is on the top of the list. World diabetes day is always celebrated on 14 November of every year. For 2017 WHO theme for diabetes was- WOMEN AND DIABETES – OUR RIGHT TO A HEALTHY FUTURE. It selected this theme because women keep caring about the family but not their selves.

The diabetic logo is a BLUE CIRCLE – BLUE because of United Nations flag color and CIRCLE depicts the whole world connected to each other.

Diabetes diagnosis criteria-

NORMAL GLUCOSE LEVEL- 70-100mg/dl

FASTING GLUCOSE LEVEL- PREDIABETIC – LESS THAN 125mg/dl, DIABETIC- MORE THAN 126mg/dl

POSTPRANDIAL GLUCOSE LEVEL- PREDIABETIC- 140-160mg/dl, DIABETIC- MORE THAN 200mg/dl

HBA1c level should be less than 7%

We Indians eat lots of carbohydrates containing food and prefer to live a sedentary life. Instead of taking care after becoming diabetic, it is better to prevent sweets. As truly said- ‘PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE’.

MEASURES TO PREVENT DIABETES

There are lots of diabetic preventing drugs and injections, some of which are to be taken before meals and some after meals. It is better to do exercise, yoga at least for 40 minutes in a day. Living sedentary lifestyle does not only make you bogus but causes many diseases like high B.P, bone weakness, Heart problems, obesity.

EFFECTS OF DIABETES

Diabetes effects are definitely seen after 10-15 years but if proper care is taken these effects can come after 20-25 years. These effects are- eyesight weak, dental problems, the healing power of wounds decreases, pain in legs, loss of sensation in feet, heart problems, kidney problems etc.

CLASSIFICATION OF DIABETES-

TYPE 1- JUVENILE i.e. at young age and due to non-formation of INSULIN

TYPE 2- OLD AGE i.e. at 40-50 years of age and due to resistance to INSULIN.

Whatever is the reason and type, it is injurious to health and should be taken proper care of.
